More than a decade to decode

Over a decade ago I considered Performing a Fancy Sailor Costume. In 2009 I had decided to play a character for the first time. It was a resounding success and that led to portrayals such as 'The Box' and a Dame Lorraine titled 'Goldilocks' and my most complecated, Jab Jab where I made a contraption that shot out from the breast of the costume and created a poping sound simulating the classic whips that the character is known for. I also created a character as part of Cat in Bag Carnival Production where I interpreted an oil derrick with squirting liquid shooting up its central form. I then decided that I wanted to attempt a Fancy Indian mas. However after purchasing some elemental details for that presentation, I felt that I was not getting to the real emotion that I wanted to convey. So the day before I planned to perform the character I decided not to proceed. Years would pass and I would do other Performances. Baby Doll as the Baby. Baby Doll carrying an adult man and Monsouire PeePee as the child father of Baby Doll. However, the idea of doing a Fancy Indian never left me. It was not until I was invited to Stonybrook Universoty in Long Island and had the opportunity to visit the Zuccaire Gallery. The featured show was titled Weaving Words, Weaving Worlds: The Power of Indigenous Language in Contemporary Art. There was a particular book that caught my attention among many wonderful moments. It was here that I found the photography of Jeremy Dennis called Nothing Happened Here Number 16. It was an image of a young woman lying on her side with a long arrow piercing through her torso. It was in the vein of the famous painting of Saint Sebastian by Andrea Mantegna. I paused to look at the image and had a Eureka moment. I saw right away why I had never been able to play the Fancy Indian costume. Very simply, I was not meant to do so. Thus Dyanami Hiboma the name supplied to me by the Cacique of Maruga, who told me to go right ahead and do it! That was all I needed to hear.
